The ransomware attack against Queensland’s second largest university in late December has caused financial impact to some university students. The attack saw the Queensland University of Technology shutting down several computer systems . Because of the attack, students are unable to access the university’s student portal to download the document required to prove that they are continuing their studies and are still eligible for student allowance. As a result, some students had their welfare payments cut two days before Christmas. It’s been three weeks since the attack and some university systems are still affected.
