The Medibank breach which affected 9.7 million customers is the worst hack in Australian corporate history. The company refused the hackers ransom demands and around 2,700 customer records were released on the dark web. Medibank analysed those released data and confirmed that they were only for policyholders from their budget brand, AHM. There are only inaccuracies in 25% of those records, where the information released did not match against that the policy for the procedure. For example, the data released in the file labelled STD would suggest that it is related to treatment for sexually transmitted diseases. However it was instead related to clients with chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and asthma. This might suggest that the hackers are having difficulties properly extracting information from the stolen data.
