The NSA has released a cybersecurity information sheet on best practices for securing your home network. They provide recommendations for device security and for online behaviour. Some of those recommendations include upgrading and updating all equipment and software regularly, including networking devices. Using your own routing device instead of the device provided by your internet service provider, backing up your data and disconnecting devices when connections are not needed. And limiting administration to the internal network only. I went through the best practices myself and am now muting the microphone on my smart home assistance device when not in use.
