Mozilla, the company behind the popular web browser Firefox, is currently recruiting beta testers for a new, free VPN (Virtual Private Network) feature integrated directly into the Firefox browser. This experimental feature, known as Firefox VPN, is still in the early stages of development, but Mozilla plans to select a group of users to test it out over the next few months.

The Firefox VPN feature will sit beside the search bar in the browser, allowing users to route their web traffic through a Mozilla-managed VPN server. This will conceal the user’s real IP address and add a layer of encryption to their online communications. Unlike the separate, paid-for Mozilla VPN product, the Firefox VPN will be a free, browser-specific feature, with Mozilla’s long-term vision of building the “best VPN-integrated browser on the market.”

Mozilla has stated that the initial beta test will be for the desktop version of Firefox, but they have acknowledged that a mobile version is a “natural next step.” The company has also assured users that it will only store user logs for three months and will only collect the technical data necessary to keep the VPN reliable and secure, without logging the websites visited or the content of communications.
