As Cyber Security Awareness Month approaches, the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) is calling on individuals and organisations across the country to prioritise strengthening their cybersecurity posture. Recognizing the constantly evolving threat landscape, the ACSC emphasizes the critical importance of adopting robust security practices to safeguard against a wide range of online risks.

The ACSC’s key recommendations include installing all software updates to keep devices secure, using unique and strong passphrases for every account, and always setting up multi-factor authentication (MFA). These fundamental security measures can significantly reduce the likelihood of falling victim to devastating cyber threats, such as data breaches, ransomware attacks, and account compromises. Furthermore, the ACSC encourages organisations to develop and regularly review their incident response plans, ensuring they are prepared to effectively manage and mitigate the impact of a successful cyber attack.

“Cyber threats are part of everyday life, but taking small actions can make a big difference,” said the ACSC Director. “By making cyber-safe behaviours a habit, like buckling a seatbelt or locking a front door, we can collectively build a more secure online environment for individuals, businesses, and the broader Australian community.” The ACSC provides a wealth of resources and guidance on its website to help Australians navigate the rapidly changing cybersecurity landscape and implement robust security measures to protect themselves and their organisations.
